What are Blogs? Why have they become so popular especially for businesses?

Well, a blog is a journal which is updated frequently and reflects the writer’s observations and views about a particular topic or subject. Blogs have created quite a storm in the Internet world and is one of the most popular ways to spread your word around the world. It is not just sufficient to write a good blog but also to ensure that people notice it or get to hear about it and read it.

One of the mediums by which you can attract traffic to your blog is through Social Networking sites. Most people have not been able to resist the temptation of social networking sites and are completely hooked. Hence, if you can get word about your blog on these sites your readership numbers will only escalate.

So, how do you go about promoting your blog on social networking websites?

• Know where to go:  Twitter and Facebook have a lot of users, however they are not the only two social networking sites that you can go to in order to promote your blog. • Appealing online persona: Merely signing up at a social networking site and posting links to your blog is not enough. You need to ensure that your target audience is not only attracted to your blog / website, but will want to keep coming back as well as spreading the word around. You can do this by ensuring that the content of your blog is what your target audience is looking for. Including appropriate and high quality images will definitely boost the visual appeal of your blog.

• Link posts to your social media profiles:  For instance you can create your own page or group on Facebook or any other social media site and post your individual blog there. This will increase interactions between your readers as well as you, indirectly creating a sort of community bond.

• Install share buttons: Many a time, readers on social networking sites want to share interesting content within their network. By including share-buttons or plug-ins at the end of your post, you can make the sharing option as quick and easy for them to do so. Each share is going to increase awareness and chances of more traffic to your blog.

• Don’t go overboard: Over promoting your blog on social network sites can have an adverse outcome. Starting your every post with “Read my blog”, “Visit my blog”, etc. can get a bit of annoying to others in the community and can come across as being needy. Instead what you should do is talk about your views, contribute to the discussions going on, give a fair amount of credit to other people's views and contents. By doing so, you are going to build a good relationship with others and perhaps they would want to know more of what you have to offer and maybe even share your blog details with others.

In conclusion, I would say that the best way to promote your blog using social networks is to build a relationship with your target audience. Listen to what they say and incorporate it in your blog, appreciate what they have to offer by commenting on or liking their posts.

Create personal bonds by tagging names of the people in your circle on relevant posts. Keeping these little things in mind can ensure traffic to your website.
